Packing The Box - Documentary about packing The Box (2017)
Site Title
Package with 3000g of art in it was sent from Skagaströnd (Iceland) to Turku (Finland) on 9th of June 2017. It arrived to Galleria-B in Turku few days before the opening of the exhibition, which took place on 18th of June. Artworks that were in the package were from 13 different artists around the world who worked at NES Artist Residency in Skagaströnd during May and June 2017. Every artwork in the exhibition was limited to have a total weight 3000g and they all had to fit inside of a box that was a size of 58cm x 50cm x 26cm. In the opening the package was set in the middle of the room under the spotlight. Beside that there were only expectations, waiting and anticipations to fill the gallery space. All the artists who presented their artwork were absent. Gallery staff with a help of some audience opened the package and then they saw the artworks for the first time. Were they happy of what they saw or were they disappointed? Who knows, but that is part of the game when you get exposed for something you have had even slight expectations for. You might even feel empty after unveiling the truth, just what happens after opening all the birthday and christmas presents. Inside of the package there was a list of the artworks and instructions how to set up them. This made exhibition opening partly a performance act which was carryout by the galleria staff and the audience. After the opening the exhibition was open as an exhibition for two days.
